LB09-1980 The Planks Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Archived but NOT gathered up! A DNF for G and I here. 77 finds (and 23+2 DNFs; sorry!) on this cache, but the series is past its sell-by date, always needed a lot of attention due to cheap cache containers - take note, series setters! - and had some other issues (reopening of train line and HS2 fears amongst them) so it's time to drop most of them. This one had moved away from the original location but I've asked a past finder to locate it if possible, and recycle it for me. Cheers for all your logs. Thanks too to HHHP20 for his company, collecting these up. The ones we found anyway! [:)]

Geocache Description:

The Life Begins cache series is an autobiographical trail set to celebrate my turning 40 in November 2011. I've always said I prefer getting to my 40s to the alternative. Don't forget to answer the question in red on the log and make a note of the number! You should get four chances to get each figure in order to find LB40-Bonus!

This cache: Is at 'The Planks' - a favourite paddling place for me and all local kids. I've a photo of a bunch of us there in the mid 70's with parents. We were all naked and I can be seen in the background having a wee. They were innocent times. You may find a bottle or cup rather useful here.

Biography: 1980 was mostly spent in wellington boots, even at the height of summer, such as the shot of me putting up a tent with Heather (June 11th 1980). This was also the year a glider narrowly missed our house before landing in the field behind it, where I'd often be found making camps out of hay bales. In 1980 I went to the recently opened Alton Towers and rode on the Corkscrew rollercoaster no less than thirteen times in succession. I went to see Flash Gordon with my brother and dad but were turned away from a long queue when the projector broke at the cinema in Buckingham.

Wider world: 1980 was the year of the new Mini Metro, the murder of John Lennon in New York, and Philips showing off this new non-scratch record; the Compact Disc. Peter Sellers, Alfred Hitchcock and Steve McQueen all died, while Dallas' JR had a narrow escape after he was shot - one of the most watched TV programmes in British history. Stone washed jeans were suddenly in fashion and everyone(ish) wanted a Rubik's Cube. Pacman hit arcades and The Woodhouse Way had everyone(ish) saying "Sit!" to their dogs. And other people's dogs. Flash Gordon was in (most) cinemas and The Shining was giving people called Jonny an excuse to act up. St. Winifred's School Choir were also horrific, but in a much sweeter way. Number 1 on my birthday: The Tide is High by Blondie.
