LB08-1979 School Daze Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Archived and gathered up, after a fight! 70 finds (and five DNFs; sorry!) on this cache, but the series is past its sell-by date, always needed a lot of attention due to cheap cache containers - take note, series setters! - and had some other issues (reopening of train line and HS2 fears amongst them) so it's time to drop most of them. TCLN. This one had moved away from the original location and took some work to find. We'd also lost most of the pick-up-crew at a local pub, so Graham and I dropped into the co-op for a drink and icecream. Cheers again for all your logs. Thanks too to HHHP20 for his company, collecting these up. No, he didn't sign the log, but I know he was here as the cache was found. For the last time! [:)]

Geocache Description:

The Life Begins cache series is an autobiographical trail set to celebrate - if that's the right word - my turning 40 in November 2011. Don't forget to answer the question in red on the log and make a note of the number! You should get four chances to get each figure in order to find LB40-Bonus!

This cache: At the above co-ords you'll find Camp Barn, site of a gathering ahead of a battle. On the plaque you should be able to make out 3rd of March 164p. Continue a few yards to the west and a junction where you'll see Buckingham q 1/2. Now carry on along Queen Catherine's Road and down Chaloners Hill (the route I used to walk to school. The return leg kept me fit!), keeping an eye on your right for a large green box with four numbers on it, all the same. Call that number r. Further down the hill you'll see The Old Bakery Dental Surgery - a bakery when I lived in Steeple Claydon - and at the bottom, the Co-op where my mother once left me parked outside by accident. I was sat quite happily when she realised what she'd done some time later and returned. You won't see the lovely old red brick Victorian school where I got a lot of education as well as went to the Cubs; it was flattened and replaced with some houses. At the bottom of the hill turn right towards the new school and immediately left to a footpath beside 'The Rec'. At the start of the path you'll see, several times, Kee Klamp 15-s.

You'll find the cache at: N51° 56.p0q W000° 59.rs0,

Biography: 1979 was another good year. I remember the day when Adam (on the left in the photo below) and I commandeered a tank and roared into Kabul. Really it was taken at Blackgang Chine on the Isle of Wight, where we holidayed that year.

Wider world: 1979 was the year of the Remington Electric Shaver ("I loved it so much I bought the company!" - Victor Kiam. Middle name: Kermit. Fact) and 'In Space No-One Can Hear You Scream' with Alien in cinemas. Madness and The Village People rode high in the charts and on TV Minder, Worzel Gummidge and To The Manor Born were popular. Sony's Walkman was getting the world musical while mobile and Trivial Pursuit launched too. The second - and last - series of Fawlty Towers aired four years after the first, Saturday Swap Shop was my favourite (I never really 'got' Tizwaz) and we had our first female PM, although it was hard to tell. Terry and June WERE comedy. Number 1 on my birthday: Dr Hook's When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman.

Where next: Follow footpaths to your target and afterwards, do the same again!
