Tyndale's Stump Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Dave and Vicky: This cache was our first and has been in place for over six and a half years and had 125 visits. We have been told by one of the volunteer reviewers that someone has now questioned the designation of this cache. When we set it up we were told it should be listed as a traditional because there is a 'box' to find. True there is an offset element. The options were to archive it and re-open it as a multi, or to put the final coordinates on the cache page and take out the topograph element. We have decided to permanently archive it with no replacement; we both feel the change was being driven by 'jobsworthness (if there is such a word). Any goecoins or TB's will be moved on this coming week and items from the box will mysteriously appear as extras around the area.

Thank you to all the people who enjoyed the gentle climb to this cache and said so in the logs. Perhaps someone else will want to use this spot. Finally, thanks to Graculus for being so helpful in trying to resolve this.

Geocache Description:

Park by the cemetery close to the entrance to the village. Your initial target is visible to your right. You can reach it by a short route or a long route. The short route goes up via some clearly marked steps, but they are quite steep. Wellies are recommended in damp weather.

Find the 'Topograph' at the grid reference and solve the following simple puzzle to get the full reference for the cache. However, take time to look at the view. You can see both Severn Bridges.

CLUE: Look for the type of bread towards the West. Put the letters into the grid below which will give you the figures to replace the X's in the cache's actual grid reference.

A B C D E F G H I J K L M
1 5 3 7 4 6 2 3 8 2 2 4 3

N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z 3 2 5 7 7 2 3 2 1 5 5 2 4

Cache is hidden at 51°N 39.685 002°W xx.xxx

If you find 'Luke' you are nearly there. The cache is behind the tree with two trunks. Afterwards, why not follow the path down and to the left into the village and visit the pub for a well deserved drink and a snack. There is also a local shop.

Close by is the small town of Wotton Under Edge. The high street is well worth a visit. The teashop is good and have a look at the Tolsey Shop too (well Vicky likes it).

Good luck
Dave and Vicky
