Geocache Description:

ENGLISH

Pécharmant is a wine produced in the hills to the North-East of Bergerac and is the best known of the Dordogne region wines. It was first produced in the eleventh century and so is the oldest collective of vineyards in the region. It was given AOC status in 1936 and 10 years later the identification "Pécharmant" was applied. Pécharmant" comes from the words "Pech" meaning"Hill" and "Charmant" meaning Charming, thus "the charming hill”, which is where this cache is to be found just outside of a small campsite in the most obvious of locations – if you are looking for a geocache that is. The Pécharmant (wine that is!) is a blend of at least three varieties, predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. These varieties produce a wine suitable for holding from four to ten years, typically tannic and full-bodied, ruby colored with fruity aromas. It goes well with Périgord charcuterie, confits, duck, red meats and strong cheeses and the 400 hectares of land in the communes of Bergerac, Creysse and Lembras produce nearly 15 000 hectolitres of wine each year.

Le Pech Charmant is also a nice little camping site with a deep well not far from Les Eyzies. Perhaps they once grew wine here or perhaps it is just a charming hill

The cache is an Ammo Box with an official geocache sticker and the log book say it is cache GC2D7MC "The 10th Anniversary of Le Pech Charmant" by Team4Altere, although none of this seems to produce meaningful results on the site! As a fellow cacher contacted me to retrieve a trackable that had been left here I decided to get it listed properly and I trust this is OK with Team4Altere.

MANY THANKS TO Sabj4 FOR PUTTING A SHEET IN TO THE BOX IN AUGUST 2019 AS THE LOG BOOK APPEARS TO HAVE GONE MISSING. DOWN THE WELL PERHAPS???!

And another big debt of gratitude to G3Mteam91 who managed to retrieve the box and repair the chain when they found the latter had broken! How did that happen??!!

Additional Hints (Decrypt)
