Elle servira de thème pour vous faire découvrir au travers de quelques caches des endroits de la ville qui ont fait son histoire.
La nécessité d'un pont du côté Est de Millau se faisant sentir une compagnie se forma vers 1831 pour réaliser cet ouvrage. Après plusieurs péripéties, en 1832 manifestations des ouvriers de la mégisserie en crise à cette époque, opposition énergique à la construction du pont par les actionnaires du Pont Lerouge (peur de partager les droits de péage) en 1834, en 1835 une ordonnance royale autorisa la construction du pont suspendu qu'entreprit la compagnie Bordelaise Bayard de la Vintrie.
1838 en mai un coup de vent plus fort que les autres emporta le pont qui était sur le point d'être terminé. Le 30 août, les réparations terminées, lors des essais d'exécution et de charge, une des quatre colonnes de support des chaines de l'édifice céda sous le poids et entraina le tablier, après une rotation sur lui-même, dans la rivière en emportant avec lui cinq personnes dont l'ingénieur en chef du département, l'agent de la compagnie et trois ouvriers. La construction repris une troisième fois et le pont fut terminé et livré en 1840.
En 1875 il fut emporté par la grande inondation et ne fut pas reconstruit. Aujourd'hui seule subsiste la petite terrasse établie sur la culée de la rive droite.
