Geocache Description:

The Rochester Heritage Trail is a walking tour of Rochester that focuses on important historic features of the city. The cache consists of 14 waypoints (A-P, excluding I and O) and the final. The total round-trip distance is approximately 2 miles on city streets and sidewalks. The posted coordinates are for parking only.

Rochester Heritage Trail

The Heritage Trail begins on the west side of downtown Rochester, at the Genesee River, near the Second Erie Canal Aqueduct, and proceeds along Broad Street and West Main Street to, and including, the Bridge Square and Susan B. Anthony Historic Districts. The Rochester Heritage Trail is a tour through Rochester’s history that focuses on the Erie Canal, entrepreneurship, and the struggle for human rights and freedom.

New Section

The Broad Street portion of the Heritage Trail (waypoints A-G) was recently completed as part of the City of Rochester Broad Street Aqueduct Project. Along this section, there is an 8" wide painted blue stripe that runs down the sidewalk. At each of the waypoints, there is a sidewalk installation that consists of engraved granite curbs surrounding exposed aggregate concrete, an embedded Heritage Trail emblem, and stamped "mule tracks". There are also information signs at most of these locations.

Old Meets New

The Main Street portion of the Heritage Trail (waypoints H-P) has been in place for a while. Along this section, the 8" wide stripe along the sidewalk changes from a painted blue line to a dual row of 4" granite tiles. At each of the waypoints, there is a square 14" bronze plaque embedded in the sidewalk.

NOTE: For Waypoint J, you will need to cross Main Street for a larger installation that includes an informational sign and accompanying scuplture.

Old Section The cache is a large 8-ounce pill bottle that is gently camouflaged for an urban environment. The cache has a large lammy for the First To Find and 24 mini lammies for future finders.

Once you have visited all the waypoints and collected the information you need, use the following to calculate the final coordinates of the cache:

Check Sum New Section : A + B + C + D + E + F + G =  87
Check Sum Old Section : H + J + K + L + M + N + P = 127

N 43 0S.TUV W 077 3W.XYZ

S = A - J - E - M
T = (D / N) + B - K
U = (C + M + J) / K
V = (L - D - C) / P

W = ((L - N) / F) - C
X = (K * F) - (G * P)
Y = H - G - J + E
Z = A - H - P

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
