Le bassin Minier de Provence et la Centrale Thermique de
Gardanne , deux éléments moteurs de l'essor industriel de la
ville Gardanne au cours du 20ème ciècle.
Huit puits ont remonté le charbon brulé dans la centrale thermique
de Gardanne pour alimenter l'usine d'alumine de Pechiney
extrèmement gourmande en énergie.
La centrale thermique de Gardanne produit aujourd'hui 825MW
d'éléctricité en deux tranches et étant équippée des méthodes de
pointe pour éliminer soufre, azote et poussieres, produit –
on ne veut pas le croire – un quart des émissions de CO2 des
Bouches du Rhône. Depuis 2003, elle ne brûle plus le charbon
remonté en Provence, mais du charbon importé d'Afrique du Sud, du
Chili, du Brésil, d'Australie et de Russie. Soit un bilan carbone
désastreux !
Ici on vous fait découvrir les restes d'un conveyeur à bande qui
réliait le puits Z, situé au bord de la D46A, et la centrale, sur
une distance de 800m. Au cours des années, de millions de tonnes de
charbon, extraits a mille mètres de profondeur passaient par ce
convoyeur. |

The mining area of Provence and the thermal power plant of Gardanne
are two main elements of the industrial boom of the city of
Gardanne during the last century.
Eight coal mines have produced the coal burnt in the thermal power
plant to provide the electricity for the extremely energy-hungry
alumina plant Pechiney nearby.
The thermal power plant of Gardanne produces today 825MW of
electricity in two blocks. Being equipped with the latest
