Lungo il Cammino di San Francesco una tappa al Santuario di Greccio
------------ ITA ------------- Incassato nella roccia, come un nido d'aquila, l'eremo di Greccio è una straordinaria fusione di architettura e natura. I confini delle costruzioni si perdono nei boschi rigogliosi di lecci che accolsero le solitarie ascesi di San Francesco. Il Santuario è noto in tutto il mondo per essere stato scelto dal Poverello di Assisi come teatro di uno dei momenti più alti e lirici della sua esistenza: la prima rievocazione della Natività di Betlemme della storia del Cristianesimo, avvenuta nella notte di Natale del 1223. Di recente il borgo di Greccio e il suo Santuario francescano sono stati inclusi dall'UNESCO tra i 754 siti che fanno parte del Patrimonio Mondiale dell'umanità. San Francesco amò profondamente la Valle Reatina. Qui trovò rifugio dalla vanità del mondo, trovò gente semplice e vicina al suo messaggio, trovò una natura dolce e rigogliosa. San Francesco fece della Valle Reatina, accanto ad Assisi e la Verna, una delle sue tre patrie. Così questa splendida pianura, circondata da colline e monti, fu da allora chiamata Valle Santa. Cut into the rocks, like an eagle’s nest, the Greccio hermitage is an amazing mix of nature and architecture. Its buildings fade into the magnificent holm oak woods that witnessed Saint Francis’ lonely ascesis. The shrine is famous all over the world for having been chosen by the little poor man of Assisi as the background of one of his life’s highest and lyrical moments: the first reenactment of the Nativity of Bethlehem, which took place during the Christmas night of 1223. Recently, the old town of Greccio and its Franciscan shrine have been included by UNESCO among the 754 sites that belong to Humankind’s World Heritage. St. Francis deeply loved the Rieti Valley. Here he found solace from the world’s vanity, genuine people close to his message, a sweet and lush nature. St Francis made the Rieti Valley, along with Assisi and the Verna, one of his three homes. So, this magnificent plain, surrounded by hills and mountains, was named the Holy Valley.
