Cascata do Barbelote / Barbelote Waterfall [Fóia] Traditional Geocache

A Cascata do Barbelote é um dos mais belos tesouros escondidos da Serra de Monchique, junto à aldeia de Barbelote, perto da Fóia que é o ponto mais alto do Algarve.

Para chegarem à cache e à cascata, recomendo que façam o trabalho de casa, e procurem no Google Earth o melhor acesso. Há vários caminhos, para lá chegar num veículo de todo o terreno. Um carro convencional poderá não conseguir lá chegar, dependendo obviamente do estado em que o estradão de terra batida se encontre. O estacionamento recomendado é mesmo para veículos TT.

Recomendo que visitem a cascata e a cache, sobretudo no Inverno após chuva intensa, altura em que a cascata mostrará toda a sua imponência. No final do Verão, o aspecto da cascata poderá ser um pouco desolador, com apenas alguns fios de água a correr.

The Waterfall of Barbelote is one of the most beautiful hidden treasures of Serra de Monchique, close to the village of Barbelote, near Fóia which is the highest point of the Algarve.

To reach the cache and the waterfall, I recommend you to do the homework, and search in Google Earth the best access. There are several roads to get you there in a off-road vehicle. A conventional car may not be able to get you there, depending of course of the conditions of the dirt roads. The recommend parking spot is for off-road vehicles.

I also recommend you to visit the waterfall and the cache, especially in winter time, after heavy rain, when the cascade reaches all the magnificence. In summertime, the appearance of the waterfall can be a bit disappointing, with only a few threads of water pouring down.

Para encontrar a cache, não precisarão de cruzar nenhuma linha de água nem chegar muito perto da cascata, de forma a estar disponível no Inverno, quando a cascata está no seu auge.

Depois de chegarem às coordenadas de estacionamento, há um pequeno trilho, bem definido, do lado esquerdo. Recomendo que o utilizem para não danificar a vegetação envolvente.

Seguindo o trilho passarão um banco num pequeno miradouro, que vos aparecerá do lado direito. Deverão permanecer no trilho, virando à esquerda e depois de descerem um pouco encontrarão do lado esquerdo do trilho um afloramento granítico com alguma dimensão e é aí que encontrarão a cache.

To find the cache, you don’t need to cross any waterlines or get too close to waterfall, in order to be available during winter, when the cascade is at its best.

After arriving to the coordinates of the parking spot, there’s a small well-defined path, on the left. Please use it, to not damage the surrounding vegetation.

Following the path you’ll find a stone bench in a small belvedere, which appears on the right side. You should stay on track, turning left and after coming down a bit you will find on the left side of the path a big rock where you’ll find the cache.
