Vas Rakitovec se nahaja na obalno kraškem obmocju, tik pod Kraškim robom na nadmorski višini 533 m. Vas je ohranila znacilno istrsko podobo s strnjenimi hišami in lesenimi balkoni (baladurji). Pomemben del vasi v preteklosti je bila "lokev" ali "kal" (zbiralnik vode, kjer so vašcani napajali govedo ter prali), ter manjša cerkev sv. Jakoba, ki izvira iz leta 1520, obnovljena leta 1870 ter ponovno pred kratkim.
Zaklad se nahaja v manjši vrtaci ob cesti Zazid - Rakitovec, v bližini mostu preko železniške proge.
The village Rakitovec is located on the coastal - karstic area just beneath the "Karst edge", 533 m above sea level. The village maintained its original Istrian appearrance with houses cramped together and wooden balconies called "baladurs". The important part of the village was the water colector called lokev or kal, where the cattle used to drink water and the villagers did their laundry, and a small church of st. Jakob dating back to 1520, which was renewed in 1870 and again very recently.
The cache is hidden in a small "sinkhole" (a hole in the ground, caused by melting of limestone on the karstic area) by the road Zazid - Rakitovec, near the bridge over the railway tracks.
