Geocache Description:

The summit of Warbonnet Peak (elevation 9,414 feet) is the highest point in Converse County. It is not easy to reach. Access from its eastern side requires permission from private landowners, and appears complicated. The mountain can be approached from its western side beginning at the Campbell Creek Campground and following the creek east for a considerable distance before ascending to a saddle that’s west of Warbonnet’s top. Keep in mind that achieving the summit from this direction involves strenuous bushwhacking, including the need to negotiate sustained tracts of ugly (sometimes painful–ouch!), dead-fallen timber.

So do your map work carefully, and be prepared for some serious work.

Your effort will, however, be nicely rewarded, because Warbonnet provides some special treasures for those who persevere:

1) Treasure 1--Sign the summit register. Few people have, over the years. The summit log is NOT the geocache.
2) Treasure 2--Photograph and then log the summit Benchmark.
3) Treasure 3--Find the Reference disc for the Benchmark, located about 30 feet east of the true BM.
4) Treasure 4--Appreciate the remarkable views. The summit is above the trees, so 360-degree viewing is in order. Take time to locate and identify special terrain features that are so nicely seen from this Highpoint vantage!
5) Treasure 5--And best of all, find the cache container, and be one of few who will ever sign its log. Be in exclusive company.

Make certain that you pack additional food, clothing, and fluids, in the event you are delayed for any reason. To be done safely, this cache requires backcountry skills/experience. Have fun!!
