La côte des Justices est une colline qui se trouve derrière la ville de Cusset, et dont la route sinueuse mène vers la Montagne bourbonnaise en direction du Mayet-de-Montagne.
Elle porte ce nom en raison des exécutions capitales qui se faisaient là autrefois. Cependant ce fut l’un des endroits les plus prisés des promenades de l’après-midi suite à la visite de Napoléon III en 1861. Le casino, juché à 479 mètres d’altitude, fut ouvert le 9 juin 1856 par un certain Martin Rodde et devint très rapidement un dérivé ludique au thermalisme mondain. Cet endroit idéal était vanté dans les guides comme un jardin suspendu à flanc de coteau, complément indispensable à tout bon déroulement thermal pour les malades ayant besoin de distractions principalement associées aux exercices physiques au grand air.
Le casino était l’un des buts de promenade les plus fréquentés des buveurs d’eaux car non seulement c’était un lieu peu éloigné du centre de Vichy mais aussi et surtout parce qu’il offrait des divertissements hors la ville tout aussi intéressants qu’à Vichy. D’ailleurs dès 1864, il prit le nom de villa du Belvédère pour ne pas créer de confusion avec le casino de l’empereur nouvellement construit. Le Nouveau guide complet aux eaux de Vichy du docteur Castanié édité la même année décrivait cette villa comme « une construction élégante, en briques rouges avec pavillons, contenant un café-restaurant et buffet fort bien approvisionnés, des jeux divers, billards, toupies hollandaises, chevaux de bois avec jeu de bague, balançoire, et un joli belvédère, dont la plate-forme est garnie d’une longue vue qui permet de distinguer à une grande distance. »
Aujourd’hui, ce lieu et ces constructions existent toujours mais sont de propriété privée.
Justices of the coast is a hill behind the town of Cusset and winding road which leads to the mountain towards the Bourbon Mayet de Montagne.
It bears this name because of the executions that were there before. But it was one of the most popular walks in the afternoon following the visit of Napoleon III in 1861. The casino, perched at an altitude of 479 meters, was opened June 9, 1856 by a certain Martin Rodde and quickly became a fashionable spa in the secondary play. This place was touted in the guidebooks as a hanging garden on the hillside, an indispensable complement to any smooth spa for patients in need of distractions primarily associated with physical exercise outdoors.
The casino was one of the purposes for walking the most popular of drinking water because not only was a place not far from the center of Vichy but mainly because it offered entertainment outside the town just as interesting that 'in Vichy. Indeed in 1864, he took the name of Villa Belvedere to avoid creating confusion with the Emperor's new casino built. "
Today, this place and these buildings still exist but are privately owned.
