Ponta do Pargo - Nome curioso! Parece que ao contornarem o rochoso pedaço de terra que a pique cai sobre o azul esverdeado do mar, na zona ocidental da ilha da Madeira, os primeiros navegadores e povoadores, entre os quais Garcia da Câmara, genro de João Gonçalves Zarco, pescaram um dos peixes mais abundantes destas águas atlânticas, o pargo.
Ponta do Pargo (Bream's Tip) - curious name! Situado na Ponta da Vigia, que se debruça 300m em escarpa sobre o mar, o farol entrou em funcionamento em 1922. Ao longo dos anos o farol foi alvo de melhoramentos, tendo sido electrificado com energia da rede pública em 1989. Dez anos mais tarde foi classificado como património local de valor cultural possuindo, desde 2001, um pequeno pólo museológico muito interessante.

Located on the Ponta da Vigia, which lies 300m in the sea cliff, the lighthouse became operational in 1922. Over the years the lighthouse has undergone improvements, and was electrified with power from the public network in 1989. Ten years later it was classified as a cultural heritage site, having, since 2001, a small but very interesting museological center .

Às quartas das 14:00 às 16:30, o farol estará aberto para visitas guiadas gratuitas, numa iniciativa da Marinha portuguesa para dar a conhecer a missão e as funções dos faroleiros.
On Wednesdays from 14:00 to 16:30, the lighthouse will be open for free guided tours, an initiative of the Portuguese Navy to publicize the mission and functions of lighthouse keepers.
