Tools of the trade, caching supplies, the contents of your cache
pack... whatever you call it, it boils down to being prepared. As a
geocacher, preparation is important. Being prepared to find the
cache, being prepared to retrieve the cache, and being prepared to
keep yourself safe while doing it.
I hope this series of caches will prove to be a fun reminder
that not all geocaches in the woods are ammo boxes covered with
pine straw, and not all urban geocaches are under lamp post skirts.
Similarly I hope it will remind cache hunters that preparedness --
what we have with us while we search -- is important.
None of this series should be extremely difficult, but will
hopefully make for an enjoyable finding experience. edit: this
multi may be a little challenging for some finders, depending on
your experience and skill level. Anyone recording a DNF can also
request a hint.
FLASHLIGHT: Every experienced geocacher knows that a
flashlight is a requirement for almost all night caches. But a
flashlight can be useful for standard hides too. It can help you
find that last cache of the day at dusk. But it can also reveal
that nano in the shadows, the control-point tag under a bridge, or
even the ugly spider in the handle of the ammo can you're about to
grab.
But one of the best daylight uses of a flashlight is
illuminating holes. Large holes, small holes, and everything in
between. Holes in rocks, trees, or even (existing) holes in the
earth.
This multi-stage cache will give finders the opportunity to use
a flashlight, even in daylight. This cache is not recommended for
young children. Older kids and teens should enjoy the search.
Please no spoilers in the logs. And please use
stealth while searching. The nearby trails are used lightly, but
depending on the season of the year, you may be visible to
others.
Other items you may find helpful while finding this cache: a
hiking stick, a pair of shoes with good non-skid soles, a partner,
and your wits.
Please approach the final from the trail. The other approach,
while easier to navigate, crosses private land.
One hint, even if you don't decrypt the ones below. No parts of
this cache are hidden anywhere that you'd be in danger of being hit
by a car. Look elsewhere!
You must retrieve the cache and sign the log in order to count
this as a find. Please rehide exactly as found.
