Geocache Description:

EN: Korcula was governed by Napoleon's (french) army from year 1805-1813, and for the next two years until the Vienna Congress (1815), the town was under british military command. Peter Lowen was in command, and some major architectural achievements were made in that short time (Forteca tower was one of them). "Engleska pjaceta" (english square) was a small square build inside the city, and its semicircular form hides a strange phenomenon. If you stand on one end of the wall, and talk with your normal voice, the person listening on the opposite end (more than 50m away) will hear the words perfectly. Try it on with somebody!
Lowen was accused to have broken the military law, which said that no non-military structures could be built in the places which are less than 10 years under british control/occupation. The legend says that as a punishment, he was sent to Zulu-land (South Africa), to command the british forces stationed there.
