The Marshman's Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Agent Splat: I placed this geocache 18 years ago, and it has continued to receive visitors regularly. I am moving out of the area and it feels irresponsible to leave it potentially unattended. All good things must come to an end. Thank you for enjoying it all these years!!!

Geocache Description:

The Marshman's Cache is hidden away on a trail surrounding the Horicon Marsh, at Conservation Hill.

This the first cache I've placed, so it seemed natural to put it out here. You don't have to go very far on the trail to find it, but I highly recommend checking out the whole circuit to see what there is to see. The trail has a great variety of wildlife, from hawks to deer to ducks and the *shudder* infamous Canadian goose, not to mention a great view of Horicon marsh!

Before or after your hunt, make sure you check out the observation deck at the top of Conservation Hill, where there's a great view of the marsh, not to mention a wonderful place to watch a sunset. The road to the top of the hill goes right by the parking spot, so there's no possibility of missing it!

Parking for the hunt and the hill are at the following coordinates:

N 43° 27.846'

W 88° 37.415'

IMPORTANT NOTE...dogs are NOT allowed on this trail. Feel free to cross-country ski through it in the winter, but I'm not sure if bikes are allowed. Be prepared to walk! :) For any nighttime cachers, this trail/park also closes in the evening, so don't plan on any searching after dark.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: In the summer, make SURE you have bug repellent. This is a marsh and the bugs will eat you if you don't. Also, be aware that geese may be on the trail with babies. They don't like it when you approach them, so stay as far away as possible. When they start hissing and twitching their necks and running at you, they don't like you. And PLEASE don't feed them. Move slowly and walk around. Also be prepared for possible ticks.

I placed the following items into the cache. Nothing special, so hopefully you guys and gals will be able to find something more interesting for it!

-An M16 Machine Gun Keychain from a vending machine (in its original plastic bubble!!)

-A "Rubies of Eventide" YoYo

-A cheap, cereal box version of a Magic 8 Ball

-A bunch of pins I got at Movie Gallery (Horicon's video rental place) and Bethesda.

-And of course, a one dollar bill, registered on www.wheresgeorge.com

And, there's a Kodak disposable camera in there. Please take a picture of yourself, your group, or of something to represent your being there, and write something down in the log book. I'll upload the pictures after enough have been taken! Thanks!
