Railway station of Ape, originally called Oppenhof, was built simultaneously with Plavinas- Valka railway. There used to be a watertower, locomotive turning triangle and a branch to sawmill. The railway line was opened in August 15, 1903. The line Aluksne- Ape was closed in 1973.
