At 700 feet above sea level, Hanley William has stunning views over the Teme valley and across to Clee Hill. The church has been here since the Normans and is now joining in with new technology through geocaching
This Church has a charming simplicity and long history. The chancel arch and the font date from Norman times. The bell is pre-reformation. Above the doorway is a stone carved with a lamb, a reminder of Jesus the Lamb of God and the sheep farmers which are a feature of surrounding agriculture.The pulpit is carved from a single tree trunk decorated with a flower and diamond pattern.
In winter the churchyard is a mass of snowdrops
The Church is very much in use today with an “All Age” service at 10.00am on the second Sunday of each month and a Communion Service at 8.30am on the fourth Sunday. There is also morning prayer said most weekdays at nine.
For those interested in walking, here is a link to a downloadable gps walk of just under 4 and a half miles (visit link) . The walk goes partly on lanes and roads but mainly on bridle paths and footpaths giving fabulous views of Clee hill as well as a pub for refreshments!
