Background
Originally part of the Austen Estate, in 1911 they decided to
build on the downs and the extension of Fort Road across the downs
was to be the first step. The locals objected strenuously even
getting the Times to take up the cause. The project was cancelled
and the land sold to the Friary Brewery who gave it to the town as
a WW1 memorial.
It is Green Belt and an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". It
has superb views to the south over the Chantry Woods and
beyond.
This cache is especially for dogs! Plenty of room, plenty of
smells and plenty of rabbits. It is a great place for their human
companions too with wonderful views and miles of varied walking. I
walked in this area with my 4 legged companion and friend for
almost 18 years and dedicate this cache to her memory. Enjoy.
A small (600mL) food container in a camo bag. Initially it
contains a small pink logbook which was a treasure from another
cache and tresures: torch, flying toy, mini bear, bouncy ball,
balloon, magic slate, dragon go badge and a "First To Find" trophy
which went to ABIIAN.
