How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Cache is in a popular sports park. You'll have to negotiate a few intermediate waypoints but won't have to leave the park. Amazingly, the final cache site is a regular cache-in/trash-out spot.

The cache has been replaced as of 3/2/2003. It was originally placed on 1/13/2002.
--- now on to the cache ----
You'll need to do a little math, but nothing too difficult.

UPDATE 9/1/2014
Start at the posted coordinates. Which are the main entrance.

The initial waypoint given for this cache will get you to a huge sign at the main entrance. On this sign are a number of images that are very similar to the attributes used on geocaching.com cache pages

1) How many attributes are shown on the sign? (Note: google street view ain't gonna help you as of this writing)
  • Multiply the number of attributes by 4 and add that amount to the posted latitude.
  • Multiply the number of attributes by 10. Add six to that number and use the result as the decimal portion of the longitude.

N 45 31.204 + ____________ = N 45 31.____
W 122 50.____

Proceed to the Field nearest the newly calculated coordinates and use these coordinates in your next calculations.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Once you’ve found your field (specifically the sign identifying it while you are facing east):

2) Determine the sum of all ten numbers in the phone number at the top of the sign (there is another number with a different area code on the bottom of the sign, but ignore that one).

  • Multiply the sum by 5 and subtract this from your current latitude to find your next latitude.
  • Multiply the sum by half of the field number (half the field number is a whole number, if it is not then you are at the wrong field) and subtract this from the current longitude to find your next longitude .

Proceed to the new coordinates.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Now that you know how far you are from Home, do the following calculations.

3) Calculate 1/5 the distance to Home.

  • Add this amount to the decimal portion of both the the Latitude and Longitude.
Proceed to the final destination of the cache.

-----------------------------------------------------------

You will never leave the park to finish the hunt.
