Grahamstown is famous for its part in the Frontier or Xhosa wars, but not many people know that it was also under threat during the Boer war. In a move that most of us probably battle to understand in this day and age, the Saint Andrews College Cadets manned a station to defend the town against the Boer Commandos. The remains of the trench and wall that they used as a defensive position are still visible more than 100 years later.
Find a place to park near the Grahamstown Golf Club clubhouse. The walk is about 400m, but its flat and easy. Watch out for golfers while you walk though.
