Geocache Description:

Old school, a slang term referring to an older school of thinking or acting, and to old objects in general, within the context of newer, more modern times. Rather than carrying the negative connotation of obsolete or out-dated, it may be used to refer to a time of perceived higher standards or level of craft. The term "old school" may be effectively equivalent to "They just don't make 'em like this anymore."

Anything that refers to a previous generation of a subject/idea/object/etc. Typically, they are highly regarded and sometimes the very thing that started it all.

A fitting tribute challenge we hope to the “old school” caches which were placed as a challenge to visit remote areas, and use of a GPSr for navigation. Remarkably by today’s standards the caches themselves were in plain sight once you arrived at GZ, and some of these still remain as such today. With the growth in popularity of the sport, and migration of placements to more urban areas the challenge is now more about the disguise, and need for stealth.
A lot of the appeal of geocaching when I first started was the challenge of visiting places I’d never had a reason to visit before, and to work out how the heck I was going to get there! Like all good adventures the rewards were more about the journey than the actual destination.

This cache can be found at the listed co-ordinates but you will need to have completed the challenge of finding and logging the 10 oldest still active geocaches in the North Island before logging your find.. As per GC.COM rules you may pre-sign the logbook in anticipation of completing the challenge. The 10 oldest are listed below, the list will be updated as and when any of them get archived.

*Any finds you have already made on any of these caches prior to the publication of this challenge will count, but only if they are still active when you have completed the task and claim this find.

* Any caches found after this cache's publication date that get archived before you complete the challenge will remain as valid finds for the purpose of this challenge.

* If you own (or have adopted) any of these caches they automatically count but only if they were adopted prior to the publication date of this challenge. If you do subsequently adopt one of these caches without having logged an earlier find on it you will need to find the next oldest cache (the 11th oldest) in the North Island.

The cache  is located  within a  narrow strip  of  council  reserve  land  that runs  between  Grenada  North  and  Horokiwi  Road.  Follow  the  well  defined  track  as far as possible, you will then need to go off-track a little. There is a short steep scramble at the end.

Note: The difficulty rating reflects the overall challenge difficuly, a couple of these oldies are fairly serious hikes. The terrain rating  reflects the terrain in getting to this cache.
