Geocache Description:

An easy find in the very center of Stockholm.

Kungsträdgården, or "Kungsan" as the locals call it, is the very heart of Stockholm. Originially it was a private park exclusively for the royal family, hence the name Kungsträdgården which means "The King's Garden" and already Erik of Pommern grew cabbage there in the 15th century.

The public wasn't allowed in the park until the late 18th century, but once opened it quickly became a favourite place for the people of Stockholm. In the summer there are a lot of music in the park and if you are lucky you will be here at the same time as a major event. Early summer has a food festival and in August Stockholm Pride is the center of attention in the city.

In wintertime you can rent skates and try ice skating in the park, a tradition that is over 100 years old, and if you arrive on a warm spring day you must come here to see the cherry blossoms, a fantastic sight.

In the park there are a lot of statues and sculptures and in the south end you can visit the Royal Opera House. Otherwise, the park is surrounded by banks and other financial institutions, and close to the north end you will find the headquarter of the Swedish alcohol monopoly Systembolaget where one of the cache owners happen to work.
