Laut einer Legende wird die Wallfahrtskirche zum Hl. Leonhard auf ein Verlöbnis zurückgeführt: Heinrich II. soll um 1019 durch sein Pferd an ein früheres Versprechen, hier eine Kirche zu errichten, erinnert worden sein. 1020 wurde die Kirche durch Papst Benedikt VIII. bei einer Reise durch Tirol eingeweiht. Der heutige Bau stammt allerdings aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Zur Zeit Josephs II. wurde die Kirche gesperrt. Fast wäre sie versteigert und abgerissen worden, hätten sich nicht die tiefgläubigen Bauern der Umgebung für den Erhalt des Gotteshauses eingesetzt.

There is a legend around the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard. Around 1019 Heinrich II. was reminded by his horse of a previous promise he had made. He had to built a church. In 1020 the new church was consecrated by Pope Benedikt VIII. while he was staying in Tyrol. The building you can see today goes back to the 16th century. At the time, when Joseph II was King, the church was closed to the public. Nearly it was auctioneered and pulled down, but the religious farmers who lived around St. Leonhard prevented the church from this destiny.
