Cherokee Rock Village Series
These caches will lead you to one of the greatest areas of Cherokee County. The Cherokee Rock Village, commonly known as “Little Rock City,” has been a local treasure for years. In the past couple of years, however, it has received a great deal of attention and efforts are being made to renovate the area in order to make it more accessible and convenient to the public. This area received a tremendous amount of exposure when a part of the movie “Failure to Launch,” starring Mathew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker, was filmed in the rock climbing areas of the CRV.
Because of its accessibility and numerous rock formations, the CRV has become a favorite among rock climbing enthusiasts and nature lovers. It is not uncommon to run into families and school groups having pictures made from the rocks that overlook Cherokee County and Weiss Lake.
The caches are found along Rock City Avenue, or County Road 70. There isn’t usually a lot of traffic on this road, and most of the people you meet will not be interested in why you are stopped along the side of the road. There are a few homes along the way, and I have tried to place caches so that you will not look suspicious to a homeowner. In some places there will be plenty of room to pull off the road, but in other areas there won’t be much room (but a lot of room isn’t really necessary – just pull to the side and the few cars you meet can just go around you).
