Geocache Description:

The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.

This cemetery was established in 1850 for the Pitts family, with the first burial taking place in that year. One online source shows 13 interments here, with the most recent being in 2006, but this may not be an entirely authoritative listing, as it does not include anything for the 1850 death of the infant John Malone, which is noted on the historical marker at this site from the Texas Historical Commission.

This is a private cemetery with a locked gate, but there is no need to enter the grounds. Look to the left of the entrance. And as always--any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
