Gowie Dam
Nestled between Selworthy and Wincanton roads is a
green little valley, hidden away in a quiet neighbourhood. It is
here that you will find Gowie dam, another reservoir presumably
built to alleviate Grahamstown's water supply problems in the late
1800's. Unfortunately I cannot seem to find much information about
this dam, nor establish after which Gowie it was named...
The area seems to be popular with dog walkers, but
there is also evidence of throughfare, so keep alert at all times.
The cache is located near an existing footpath, so please make sure
nobody is around before hunting for the cache.
Warning: there
is a deep donga that cuts across the valley - please watch your
step. You will avoid the donga if you walk along the road until you
are as close as possible to the cache, before heading into the
valley.
