Geocache Description:

A cache located in Bury Knowle Park
A homage to local authors C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien
The cache is not at the initial coordinates.
It is a small sealed container, camouflaged, big enough for small travel bugs and geocoins
It contains a log book, pencil and sharpener
A family friendly cache, clues may be solved by young children and adults!

Bury Knowle Park in Headington is owned by the city council and has been open to the public since 1930.
The postcode for the park is OX3 9HX.

In my opinion it is the best park in the area. Where else can you find all of these in one place?
  • A library (under threat of closure)
  • Kids play area (recently redeveloped with a Narnian theme).
  • The Storybook Tree.
  • The Wheel of Hope sculpture.
  • A sensory garden for the visually impaired.
  • Tennis courts (for hire, bring your own eqipment).
  • Mini golf.
  • A kiosk providing drink and ice creams + mini golf equipment hire.
The story book tree
Thanks to Headington Action, the trunk of the dead cedar tree in Bury Knowle Park was turned into a sculpture featuring characters from the books of the Headington authors J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis: the dragon Smaug from The Hobbit, Aslan the lion from The Chronicles of Narnia, and the horse from The Horse and His Boy, whose name is given to this cache (but let's call him Bree for short).

Four benches, one with a serpent, one with a Beaver, one with Owls and one with an Eagle have also been added.

The listed coordinates will position you in the centre of The Wheel of Hope.

The wheel of Hope is an art project in which a number of relief tablets, each featuring symbols of Hope, were produced by local primary schools in a series of workshops with the artist Diana Bell.

The final coordinates for the cache are calculated by answering these questions about the Wheel of Hope:

A = Substract 3 from the number of tablets which form the wheel.
B = How many kangaroos are depicted in the stones?
C = In one tablet featuring footprints in a river. How many footprints are on the bank?
D= In one tablet buildings are depicted. How many tower blocks are there?
E = In one tablet there are people climbing up stairs. How many people are climbing?

Final coordinates = N51º 45.(A)(B)(C) W01º 12.(D)(A)(E).

Update: There are 3 Pokémon Go Gyms in the park and consequently muggle activity is HIGH, but you will not look out of place wandering about staring at you smartphone!
