The Texas Spirit
Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near
cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the
many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before
us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities
across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The
cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries,
tombstones and local
lore.
There is actually no online information currently available
for this site (other than a claim that this is a Hispanic
graveyard), and it sort of appears to be on private property, so I
could not check any dates on the headstones, which are in a bad
state of repair. So this site may not be historic in any way. A dog
and and a hen with its brood were wandering about. Several
headstones are in pieces on the grounds. There appears to be one in
the distinctive form used for members of the esoteric Woodmen of
the World.
An approach starting from FM 1327 at the west end of Eveyln Road
will meet with miserable failure, so come at this from Highway 183
northbound instead. For reasons that escape my own understanding, I
did not place the cache at the obvious spot, the micro-driveway in
front of the overgrown vacant lot immediately to the west of the
cemetery. However, that is the best parking
spot.
