Provavelmente, o animal mais rápido à superfície da terra, chega a alcançar os 300 Km/h.
O falcão peregrino é o maior falcão que ocorre em Portugal.
Deve o seu nome "Peregrino" aos hábitos nómadas e às suas peregrinações errantes, sobretudo na fase adolescente. Em Portugal, é uma espécie de passagem entre o Outono e o Inverno, sendo muito rara.
Caracteriza-se pelas suas asas largas, pela cauda curta e pelo barrete escuro. Se observado a pequena distância, são visíveis as patas amarelas, as barras transversais finas (no adulto) e o espesso “bigode”.
Numa das muitas viagens que fizemos à serra tivemos a oportunidade de observar um exemplar destes, à distância, no cimo de uma cumeada.
THE PEREGRINE FALCON
Probably the fastest animal on the earth's surface, it can reach 300 km/h, the peregrine falcon is the biggest hawk that lives in Portugal.
It is called "Pilgrim" because of its nomad customs and roving peregrinations, especially during adolescence. In Portugal, is a species that can be found between the autumn and the winter, being very rare.
The Peregrine falcon is characterized by the wide wings, short tail and dark cap. If observed from a short distance, the yellow paws, the thin crossbars (in adults) and the thick "mustache" are also visible.
In one of the several trips we made to the mountain, we had the chance to view one of these birds in the distance, on the top of a ridge.
