Location:
On a dark and stormy night, a ship was carrying timber. In this bad weather the ship had drifted up to land. The shippers didn't see a thing and they were disoriented in the dark. Skerries and shallows were everywhere. They had lost their hope of surviving. The shippers prayed that they would somehow get a safe place on land. They also made a resolution to build a church wherever they would land safely.
After the shippers had finished praying, they saw land! There were no possibilities they could see land. It was in the middle of the night and all of the lights in the town had been turned off. But, there was a light. The shippers got off the ship and swam towards it. When they got on land, they saw what light it was. It was a heavenly being. An angel. The angel quickly disappeared when all of the men on the ship were safe.
The shippers called the cove, where they landed safely, Engilsvík (Angel's Cove).
They constructed a church (to thank God for saving them) and called it Strandarkirkja (Coast's Church).
The statue Landsýn represents the being the fishermen saw.
Strandarkirkja.
