Great Q View
. I placed this one on impulse with the materials on hand while wandering around this beautiful area. Cache contains a log and pencil. The setting of a large open meadow with sun dappled trails radiating through the beech forest surrounded on three sides by large pristine ponds is wonderful.
. The small cache is located near an pond overlook on Betty's Neck at the end of a side trail. The water in this area is all labeled as Great Quittacas Pond by my GPSr map (hence the name) but actually includes Assawompset, Pocksha, Long Pond and Little Quittacus as well. Public boating access to the ponds, which serve as a reservoir for Taunton and New Bedford, is allowed only on Long Pond but shoreline fishing seems popular. Most of the area was restricted from the public for over 100 years though there is a much longer history of native use.
. Reaching the parking area can be a challenge: see waypoint coords and gallery. Several other caches are in the area, including one at the parking lot
