Geocache Description:

A micro cache close to Christ Church, Downend. It is not within the churchyard, though you may be interested to see inside.

The designer of the Anglican church in Downend was honoured postumously for his work and is the only person known to have this honour due to the fact he was a convicted forger! Read his story here Francis Greenways' portrait was shown on the first Australian decimal-currency $10 note (1966–93), making him probably the only convicted forger in the world to be honoured on a banknote.

The church is dedicated to Jesus Christ, the figure central to the Christian faith.



Built as a Chapel of Ease, to the main Anglican Church of St James in Mangotsfield, this church is now seen as the main Parish church in the area.

Christ Church sits adjacent to the cricket ground on which the famous cricketer W.G Grace played. Within the church building it is possible to see the memorials to the Grace family. Dr Graces' surgery is a short walk away from the church and is identified by a plaque. The shopping centre in Downend is named The Willow Shopping centre in Graces honour.
