Geocache Description:

This cache is a small container in a small forest near the Shanghai Opera Company. Access to the area is from the lane off Changshu Road (N 31° 13.130 E 121° 26.576). If your device shows the cache in the middle of Huadong Hospital, you should find the cache at the Opera House Emergency Waypoint instead, located at (N 31° 12.995 E 121° 26.745)

I have been looking out my window at this place for almost a year, and decided it really needed a cache. There is not much groundskeeping here, so it seems like the cache might have a chance to stay a while. As always in China, be very aware of muggles. If there is activity in the nearby party room, you should give this one a pass. The lawn signs say, "The baby grass is resting. Please add much blessing.". In other words, follow the stepping stones, lest you awaken said baby grass. For such a large city, there aren't a lot of arts and music going on, but here is one such place. Since its foundation in the 1950s the Shanghai Opera House has been involved in the creation and performances of famous works in the repertoires of opera, Choir, symphony, dance drama, dance, musical theater, and other vocal and instrumental programs. The Shanghai Opera is one of the best known and most influential performing groups in China. The opera house has a rich repertoire, both commissioned and original, including opera: King of Chu, Thunderstorm, the Wager; dance drama: Dagger Society, Fly to the Moon, Phoenix in the Qi Mountain, etc. At the same time the opera house is also celebrated for performing Chinese and foreign classical works. These include Chinese operas such as Sister Jiang, the Wild Field; foreign operas such as Madame Butterfly, Carmen, Aida, La Traviata, the Merry Widow, Othello, Tosca, Turandot, the Nose; as well as cantatas such as the Yellow River, Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. In addition to these works, the Shanghai Opera House has also established professional working relationships with foreign opera companies, world-famous festivals and artists. In 2008, the opera house was invited to tour to Italy, the Vatican, Austria, Finland and Sweden, and was widely acclaimed. Near the cache are some ancient and very interesting London Plane (Platanus acerifolia) Trees. And in spite of the occasional guard's statements to the contrary, this park IS public property. To avoid unnecessary scrutiny, best once you enter the inner courtyard to take the paved road to the right until you find the stone steps leading into the lawn. Beware the Shanghai map offset that comes and goes. Waypoint on the map is not always the actual cache location. This is due to the fact that Chinese maps use GCJ-02 datum, while Geocaching, and most GPS devices, use WGS-84 datum.
