Aikavaellus

Aikavaellus on 13,7 kilometriä pitkä vaellus- ja ulkoilureitti, joka alkaa Tuorlan observatoriolta ja päättyy Turun yliopistolle. Kaarinan ja Turun kaupunkien läpi mutkitteleva reitti on suunnattu kaikille luonnontieteistä kiinnostuneille. Kokonaisuudet on rakennettu siten, että kaikenikäiset kävijät löytävät kiinnostavia asioita vaelluksen varrelta. Maisemat vaihtelevat metsästä aina puistomaisemaan ja urbaaniin asutukseen asti.

Reitin pituus on kytketty läheisesti universumin 13,7 miljardin vuoden ikään. Näin ollen yksi kilometri maastossa vastaa miljardia vuotta maailmankaikkeuden historiassa. Tärkeitä tapahtumia maailmankaikkeuden historiassa on maastossa merkitty rapakivilohkareilla, joihin on kiinnitetty messinkilaatta. Messinkilaatta kertoo sen hetkisen iän suhteutettuna reitin pituuteen (esimerkiksi 4,6 kilometrin kohdalla ikä on 4,6 miljardia vuotta) sekä keskeiset tapahtumat asiasanoin tiivistettynä.

Aikavaellus on suunniteltu siten, ettei koko reittiä tarvitse kiertää kerralla. Esimerkiksi Turun itäisen keskustan alueella voi tutustua maapallon kehityshistorian viimeiseen 1800 miljoonaan vuoteen.

Aikavaellus-reitti kuuluu Turku 2011 -ohjelmaan ja se avattiin virallisesti 19.5.2011.

Ihmiskunta

Kulkiessasi 13,7 km Tuorlasta yliopistolle huomaat, että nykyihminen (Homo Sapiens) on ollut olemassa vain viimeiset 200 000 vuotta, joka vastaa 20 senttiä reitillä. Ensimmäiset pystyssä kulkevat apinat ilmaantuivat 7 miljoonaa vuotta sittten eli 7 metriä ennen reitin loppua. Kun tähän lisätään "viisaan" ihmisen saavutukset viimeisen vuosisadan aikana (0,1mm) - mm. toinen maailmansota ja muu toistensa tappaminen, niin kysymys kuuluu: Kuinka monta metriä ihmiskunta säilyy tällä planeetalla?

Onko ihmisten mahdollista sinnitellä vielä metrin eteenpäin eli miljoona vuotta? Auringon sammumiseen on 5km matkaa, muttei ihminen taida säilyä niin pitkään. Anna loggauksessasi sivistynyt arvaus ihmiskunnan tulevaisuuden pituudesta.

Kätkö

Kätkön nimessä TT viittaa reitin englanninkieliseen nimeen Time Trek ja -1 miljooniin vuosiin (Ma) eli tulevaisuuteen. Maailmankaikkeus syntyi nykykäsityksen mukaan Alkuräjähdyksessä 13720 Ma. Samoin Aikavaellus-reitti ja tämä multikätkö alkaa 13720 metriä Turun yliopistolta Tuorlan kallioon louhitun tunnelin suuaukon läheltä.

Aloita retki tarkastelemalla yliopiston työpajalla tehtyä info-taulua ja jatka siitä reittiä pitkin yliopistolle. Pyörä lienee sopivin liikkumismuoto ja siitä lienee hyötyä myös loppupurkilla. Jalan pääsee myös ajan kanssa ja autollakin - kunhan muistaa pysäköimissäännöt. Purkki löytyy lähempää yliopistoa kuin Tuorlaa. Mene sinne, mistä ihminen on tullut ja tähyile, minne me olemme menossa.

 
 

Time Trek

The Time Trek is a 13.7 kilometer long trekking and outdoor route that starts at the Tuorla Observatory and ends at the University of Turku. The Trek passes through the cities of Kaarina and Turku and is designed for all those who are interested in the history of the Universe, Earth and Life. The Trek is designed for people of all ages, and should be interesting for the whole family. The scenery along the Trek is diverse ranging from forests, fields and parks to urban environments.

The length of the Trek, 13.7 km, is intended to reflect the Universe's age, 13.7 billion years. This can be seen along the Trek as one kilometer equals to a billion years in the age of the Universe. There are rapakivi granite boulders with brass plaques along the route marking out significant points in the history of the Universe. The plaques will briefly explain the events marking a certain period.

The Time Trek is designed so that you don't have to walk all 13.7 kilometers at once. You can familiarize yourself with the latest 1800 million years of history just in Turku.

Time Trek is part of Turku 2011 program and the route was officially opened 19.5.2011.

Human race

When you travel 13,7 km from Tuorla to the university you find out that current human (Homo Sapiens) has been here only for 200 000 years which relates to 20 cm on the route. First ancestors of us which walked with two feet appeared about 7 million years ago - i.e. 7 meters earlier. If we compare this to the achievements of "wise" human during last 100 years (0,1 mm) - like WWII and other mass murders, the question arises: How long will human race inhabit this planet?

Can humans survive still one meter - meaning million years? The sun will die after 5 billion years - meaning 5 km beyond the university. In your log give an educated guess how long our civilization will last.

The cache

TT in the cache name refers to the name Time Trek of the route and -1 refers to million years (Ma) - i.e. to the future. According to the current understanding the universe was born in the Big Bang about 13720 Ma. In the same way Time Trek route and this multi-cache begin 13720 meters from University of Turku - nearby the entrance to the optical tunnel.

Begin the tour from the information board in Tuorla and continue along the route to the university. Cache box will be nearer to the university than Tuorla. Most convenient way to travel along the route is probably by bike - that might be helpful also with the cache box. Walking is a good option if you have enough time and driving by car is possible also but remember the parking rules. Go to the roots of human race, look around and see where it will go.
