This series of caches memorialize those unfortunate individuals
that were murdered on the slopes of beautiful Mt. Tamalpais. May
this type of desecration never happen again.
Between August 19, 1979 and May 2, 1981, nine people were murdered
and one wounded on Bay Area trails. Three murders were committed on
the trails of Mt. Tamalpais, two on Rock Spring Trail, and one on
Matt Davis Trail.
Barbara Schwartz was the second person murdered on Mt. Tamalpais.
She was stabbed twelve times. Her body was found in the brush just
off Matt Davis Trail on the mountain. The knife was eventually
found abandoned on the trail, but time, weather, and handling by
its finders made it impossible to tie the weapon to a killer. This
geocache is placed as a memorial within 100 feet of where her body
was found.
David Carpenter, the person responsible for these murders, is in
prison at San Quentin and will never see the outside world again.
May a tragedy such as this never again occur on the sacred slopes
of Mt. Tamalpais.
The container is a between small and regular in size. I am listing
it as small, but it's on the large side of a small container.
There's plenty of room for trade items. There are two geocoins
looking forward to being on the move.
