Mitten Crab Traditional Geocache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

sulid: Winter flooding damaged the boardwalk and platform where this cache is planted. Access is closed. Repairs are expected, but the timeline is uncertain. I expect it will be summer 2024 at the earliest. Will update as information becomes available.

The fate of the cache is unknown. It should be OK.

Geocache Description:

The mitten crab is an invasive species that would be unwelcome in this area. The Mitten Crab geocache is okay, though, so long as it stays put. Probably only one good route to this one, which is via the Wells Reserve trail system. Parking is off Skinner Mill Road. (Trails are open 7 am to sunset.) Small fee late May to early October.

Just a logbook in a flat container that could hold a small item but didn't at the outset.

FTF: marcipanek - Congrats!

This geocache is part of the Gulf of Maine Council Geotour across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. You can earn a limited edition geocoin for accumulating 100 points in the tour. Details for the geotour can be found at the GOMC website. To play, download the full geotour passport.

The "mitten crab" containers have run out after three replacements of the original, but a similar container was deployed on this cache's 10th anniversary. Let's hope it holds up to the harsh environment and stays waterproof.
