MOSTEIRO DE LORVÃO
Esta cache é dedicada ao Mosteiro de Lorvão, um dos mais importantes monumentos do país.
This cache is dedicated to the Monastery of Lorvão that is one of the most important monuments of Portugal.
Mosteiro de Lorvão:
O Mosteiro de Lorvão remonta ao século IX, tendo tido uma importância considerável durante a Idade Média. Pertenceu aos monges beneditinos, tendo passado depois para a Ordem de Cister (feminina), por imposição de D. Sancho I. A Rainha Santa Teresa, filha de D. Sancho I, foi aqui freira, encontrando-se aqui sepultada, juntamente com a sua irmã D. Sancha. O Mosteiro era muito rico, tendo exercido nos seus domínios uma vasta obra de desenvolvimento da região em várias áreas (cultural, agrícola, religiosa, etc).
Já no século XX, por iniciativa do Professor Bissaya Barreto o mosteiro foi convertido em hospital psiquiátrico, função que desempenhou até há pouco tempo.
Monastery of Lorvão:
The Monastery of Lorvão dates back to the ninth century, having had a considerable importance during the Middle Ages. It belonged to the Benedictine monks, and then passed to the Cistercian Order (female), by D. Sancho I order. The Queen Santa Teresa, daughter of D. Sancho I was a nun here, and is buried here, along with his sister D. Sancha. The monastery was very rich, having provided a great development of the region in various fields (cultural, agricultural, religious, etc).
In the twentieth century, at the initiative of Professor Bissaya Barreto the monastery was converted into a psychiatric hospital, a position it held until recently.
Aqui no mosteiro, foram copiados à mão muitos livros sendo alguns deles muito importantes dado serem únicos. O mais famoso de todos é o "Apocalipse de Lorvão".
Here in the monastery, were copied by hand many books, some of which are very important because they are unique. The most famous of all is the "Revelation of Lorvão."
A CACHE
A cache é micro, contendo logbook e stashnote (levem caneta). Tenham cuidado ao manusear e deixem tudo como encontraram. Dada a dificuldade de manter a cache nas imediações do mosteiro, devido à particularidade da configuração da localidade, a cache foi recolocada e mostra-vos agora uma perspectiva diferente de Lorvão e do seu Mosteiro. Não deixem de descer ao centro e visitar o local!

THE CACHE:
The cache is micro, containing logbook and stashnote (take a pen with you). Be careful when handling and leave everything as found. Because of the difficulty of maintaining the cache in the vicinity of the monastery, due to the particularity of the town configuration, the cache was replaced and show you now a different perspective of Lorvão and its Monastery. Do not forget to go down to the center and visit the place!
