[FIN] Märketin majakka sijaitsee samannimisellä Suomen ja Ruotsin puoliksi jakamalla 350 * 150 m luodolla keskellä Ahvenanmeren pohjoisosaa. Märketillä on Suomen läntisin maalla sijaitseva piste. Radioamatöörien keskuudessa Märket lasketaan omaksi maakseen ja on siksi suosittu yhteyskohde. Märketin lähiluodoilla on suuria hyljeyhdyskuntia.
Märketin historian lyhyt oppimäärä:
1809 - Märketin luodosta tuli Ruotsin kuningaskunnan ja Venäjän rajasaari.
1885 - Märketille rakennettiin majakka turvaamaan Pohjanlahden meriliikennettä.
1976 - Märketin majakka automatisoitiin ja sen miehitys lopetettiin.
1985 - Ruotsin ja Suomen valtakunnanraja siirrettiin niin, että majakka jäi kokonaan Suomen puolelle.
2007 - Suomen Majakkaseura aloitti majakan kunnostustyöt ja majakka avattiin yleisölle.

Myös omalla veneellä voi saapua, mutta sataman puuttuessa rantautuminen onnistuu vain täysin tyynellä säällä. Majakan miehistölle voi soittaa numeroon +358 40 8499333. Majakkaan on pieni pääsymaksu joka sisältää opastetun kierroksen ja pullakaffet. Lisäksi vierailijoiden toivotaan tukevan kunnostustyötä ostamalla Märket-tuotteita majakan kaupasta.

[ENG] Märket lighthouse is located on a small 350 * 150 m reef in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland. The westernmost land point of Finland is on Märket. Radio amateurs consider Märket a separate entity and thus it is one of the world's most desired "countries". There are big seal colonies on the nearby reefs.
Short history of Märket:
1809 - Märket Reef lay right on the new border drawn between Sweden and Tsarist Russia.
1885 - Märket Lighthouse was built to safeguard shipping in the Gulf of Bothnia.
1976 - Märket Lighthouse was automated and left unmanned.
1985 - Sweden and Finland agreed to redraw the international border to leave the whole of the lighthouse on the Finnish side.
2007 - The Finnish Lighthouse Society started restoration work on Märket Lighthouse and opened it to the public.

Boat tours are arranged from Eckerö Käringsund harbour in the summertime, see The Finnish Lighthouse Society's pages for more information. It is also possible to visit the island with your own boat, provided that the weather is calm as there is no harbour. Crew on Märket can be contacted by calling +358 40 8499333. There is a small entrance fee to the lighthouse which includes guided tour and coffee. In addition visitors are encouraged to support the restoration work by buying Märket merchandise from the lighthouse store.
The cache is NOT inside the lighthouse. T=2 while on the island, and D=1 if you use the hint. The charter boat skipper and the lighthouse society crew on the island are aware of the cache existence and location.
Remember to do some shopping in the lighthouse to support the restoration work. And don't forget your swimsuit to make that Finland-to-Sweden-and-back swim.
