[ENG] Cache is located on the shore of Ostvald`s canal. Cache is 2L container with logbook, pencil and free space for trade items.
[LV] Eižens Ostvalds (1851.-1932.) bija augstakas mežsaimnieciskas izglitibas pamatlicejs Latvija, velak LU profesors un mežzinatnu goda doktors. E. Ostvalds laika no 1883. lidz 1906. gadam bija Rigas pilsetas mežu parvaldnieka amata. Vina vadiba 1898. gada saka veidot mežu nosusinašanas sistemu purvainajos mežos starp Kekavu, Plakanciemu un Olaini, ierikot 640 km garu gravju sistemu. Šis ap 40 km2 lielas platibas galvena noteka, Skujenieku-Daugavas kanals, tiek saukts par Ostvalda kanalu. Kanals ir 10,5 km garš, 10m plats un 3,5 m dzilš. Varbut musdienas, kad mehaniskas iespejas ir gandriz neierobežotas, daudziem liksies, kas tad šeit ir tik ipašs? Ši noteka rakta rokam smilšainas, nenoturigas gruntis, ta tika izmantota ari koku pludinašanai. 50. gados, kad veica šo mežu nosusinašanas sistemu rekonstrukciju, Ostvalda kanala lejasdala bija tik laba stavokli, ka nebija nepieciešami nekadi atjaunošanas darbi. Jau Ostvalda laika purvi (iznemot kudras ieguvei paredzetos) bija praktiski izzuduši un to vieta izveidojušas labas kvalitates mežaudzes.

[ENG] Eugene Ostwald (1851. - 1932.) was founder of the higher forestry school in Latvia, later proffesor at the University of Latvia and honorary doctorate of forestry sciences. From 1883. to 1906 E. Ostwald was a steward ot the Riga city woodland. Under his leadership in 1898., drainage systems in marshy woodlands between Kekavam Plakanciems and Olaine with total length of 640 km were build. Skujenieku-Daugvas canal which is main gutter of this 40 km2 area is also called as Ostvald's canal. The canal is 10.5 km long, 10m wide and 3.5m deep. Perhaps today, when the mechanical possibilities are almost limitless, many will think what is so special about this. Actually this gutter was excavated by hand in the sandy, unstable soil and it was also used for timber rafting.
In the middle years of 20th century reconstruction of drainage systems were carried out, lower parts of the Ostvald's canal was in such good condition that it was left without any improvements. During Ostvald's service all swamps (expect these which were used for extraction of peat) were converted to valuable coppice.
