Geocache Description:

“Go outside, get into nature and make your own discoveries!"

That is what Dr. Scott challenges his viewers to do at the end of each Dinosaur Train episode.  In support of this call to action, The Jim Henson Company has hidden Dinosaur Train themed Geocaches nationwide with the help of local PBS stations and Geocachers. To find the location of other Dinosaur Train themed Geocaches, simply search for "Dinosaur Train" in the Keyword Search Option.  Each Geocache celebrates a dinosaur featured in the Dinosaur Train Field Guide on the PBS Kids Website. This Geocache is the Pteranodon Geocache.

The Pteranodon was from the Late Cretaceous Period of North America.  Though not actually a dinosaur, The Pteranodon was a reptile and generally associated with Dinosaurs.  With a wing span the length of a school bus, this Pterosaur was the largest of its family.  Scientists believe this flying reptile glided over the water like a modern day pelican and scooped up a mouth full of fish.

On Dinosaur Train, the Pteranodon’s took a train ride to meet the Triceratops Family and learned that they were Herbivores, or plant eating Dinosaurs.  The Kids discovered that they were carnivores because they ate fish and fish was meat.  Shiny then sings, “If I could wish for just one dish, my greatest wish, would be more, Fish!”

The Cache is located in beautiful Guilford Township along the Falling Spring Branch which is a fertile limestone spring.  Wild Rainbow and Wild Brown Trout can be caught here as well as stocked Hatchery Trout.  This location is a favorite spot where muggles “fly” like Pteranodons and catch fish.  So watch your ears and hold on tight to your hat.  Be courteous to possible muggles and please keep the place as clean as you found it.  As always, remember to CITO.

This Cache container is for collecting Dinosaur facts, pictures, figures, stickers, etc and will be used as an educational Cache.  It’s an easy grab and is great for the Geo Kids that tag along.  Parking is so close to ground zero.  No need to mark coordinates.
