The Maryland
Geocaching Society invites everyone to join us on Saturday, October
8th at 10:30 am for the MGS 2011 Fall Picnic.
We would
like to invite everyone who has an interest in the hobby of
geocaching to come and join us. You do not have to be a member of
the MGS to attend. No matter if you have 10 or 10,000 finds,
everyone is welcome! New to the game? New to the area? Visiting
from out of town? Feel free to join us at New Germany State Park in
Grantsville, MD.
New Germany
State Park's visitors frequently call it a "best kept secret." This
mountain gem is nestled between the 2,900 ft. Big Savage Mountain
to the east and the eastern Continental Divide along Meadow
Mountain to the west. Named by early settlers due to its
resemblance to their homeland, New Germany has diverse forests with
ten miles of multi-use trails and a small lake suitable for
fishing, swimming, and non-motorized boating. This park is ideal
for families and individuals looking to "unplug" from a
tech-reliant society and escape from the busy pace of life in
cities and suburbs.
The park
rangers at New Germany State Park were gracious enough to allow the
MGS the use of the Lake House in exchange for a Geocaching 101
Presentation to be held before the start of the Fall Picnic. Since
the picnic will be at an indoor venue there will be no grills, so
potluck items will need to be something not required to be
cooked.
There will
be new caches placed for the event and also a night before bonfire
event that will be published soon. If you plan on camping at the
park, be sure to reserve your spot using
Reserve America online.
Our
tentative schedule for the day:

10:00am - Geocaching 101 Presentation.
10am -

there!

Germany is a Maryland State Park, there is an entry fee of
