Welcome to Iron Mountain Challenge

This is the ultimate challenge for Iron Mountain - are you a tough enough Iron Mountain Man or Iron Mountain Woman to be able to complete it in one day???

I've used Iron Mountain for a few years now for hiking practice before I go on my Sierra Nevada adventures (and some lesser known adventures). This mountain is a perfect training ground. It's close enough to home and the terrain and trail is rugged and steep. I've put many miles under my shoes carrying my 50 lbs backpack just to "get used to it." Well, I didn't want any of you to miss out on any hiking practice so I placed this epic multi-cache for your enjoyment... Well, mine too since I've already found all the caches in the Iron Mountain Hall of Fame.

Without further ado, here's your assignment if you choose to take it.
This multi has a total of 11 waypoints until you get to the final. You'll be criss-crossing the area north to south and east to west several times. Do NOT take this challenge lightly - it's not easy to complete in a single day, but if you do, you truly are an Iron Mountain Man/Woman. If you have completed 2006 MTRP Cache War WoM(L)D or The Largest Star and/or The Hunt For Red October consider those warm-ups compared to this. The round-trip distance from main parking is roughly 11 miles if you fly to each waypoint, but I doubt that you have a helicopter handy. All waypoints are next to well established trails except for one, but the bushwhacking is minor and if you have completed IM HoF you already know what you are up to (choose your trails wisely). Expect to spend some time out here, around 8 hrs give or take, so bring plenty of water and something to eat. All waypoint caches are cammo M&M tubes. At every WP you get coordinates for the next waypoint + hint and tidbits of information for the final coordinates. Bring pen and paper. There is no swag, just a logsheet in the final.

A few helpful hints: download all the caches in the area (no need to solve the puzzles), it will give you some good reference points for each waypoint you have to find - especially if you have completed the IM HoF challenge. Second, print out a map (or several maps) of all the caches in the area for even better reference points.

The terrain/difficulty is 4.5/4.5 because it was a request from a 5/5 cache I placed a few years back. I'm happy to please! Updated to 4.5/5 by request. If you complete it in a day the terrain is about right!

"What do I get for completing this epic challenge except sore feet?" you might ask... Well, if you do it in one day you get to be in the Iron Mountain Challenge Hall of Fame with all the bragging rights because you are hard-core. If you do it as a multi-day effort, you get to be in the "Almost" Iron Mountain Challenge Hall of Fame just for completing it.
Here's another incentive to do it... The 10 first hardcore finders will get an award at the Second Annual M*A*S*H Awards Banquet on June 18, 2011.

Can it be done in a single day? You bet! When I placed all WP's I walked it backwards (doesn't make it any easier), and I placed it in the order as you will find them just to make sure it was doable in one day. So, if I can do it...

The HoF's are by honor system - so play fair!

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Almost forgot... Take good notes while out there to be able to solve for Iron Mountain Challenge Part 2.

Congratulations to loookin4u to be FTF and complete it in one day. You are definitely hardcore!!!
