Geocache Description:

A lovely temple in China Town. Very old but in very good shape.

A third grade royal temple of the Worawiharn. Built in the time of ayutthaya period it used to be surrounded by a moat that was connected to the Chao Praya river. Used to be called What Koh as it was on an island. In 1796 King Rama I renovated the entire temple and made it a royal temple with the name Wat Koh Kaew Langkram. Under King Monkut (Rama IV) the name was changed one more time to "Wat Samphanthawongsaram Worawiharn" honor the son of Rama I Prince Samphanthawongsaram Worawiharn who founded the temple.

From then till today the temple has seen many changes. The land has slowly been sold off or rented off. The temple has been overhauled recently with the structure being 3 stories allowing for administration and offices below. The structure is quite elegant and has a nice breeze and view of the neighborhood.

In the courtyard is a nice Thai style wooden house that gives the place along with the trees a very rural feel. Also to be found is a footprint of the lord Buddha.

All the way in the back I found an interesting free physical therapy clinic that is only open on Wednesday afternoons. It is a combination of ancient Thai and Chinese massage and Chiropractic techniques. The Dr and her staff offer the temple and community their support even though they are from the other side of the river, Thonburi. Was amusing to see the folk being made into human pretzels.
