Geocache Description:

Would you like to join in the Wirral’s First “CITO EVENT”?

CITO stands for “Cache In Trash Out” – and has its own caching icon on www.geocaching.com!

We will be working with the Park Rangers in Birkenhead Park. The activities we will undertake will be decided on the day depending on the weather. They are likely to include gardening in the Community Garden and litter picking (especially after all the Easter activities in the extended holiday period). You will be able to select the most appropriate activity for youself, and we’ll probably swaps groups part way through the session.

Date : (Bank Holiday) Monday – 2nd May 2011

Time : 10:00am – 13:00pm

Meeting Location : Birkenhead Park Visitor Centre (at the listed co-ords)

All equipment will be provided, but please wear old clothes and either boots or wellingtons. Depending on the weather, it may be worth having some warm clothes and a waterproof cagoule in case they are needed. There are roads and lakes within the park so childfren and pets will need to be supervised.

The Rangers also have some other special activities that may be undertaken on the day.

The existing “In House” Geocaching Trail for Beginners, set up in conjunction with the Discovery CLC. These micro caches are used as a taster to geocaching, and introduction to using GPS receivers. They are not listed on www.geocaching.com, so no smilies, but they have been popular with groups since they were placed.

“The Grand Tour of Europe” within the park. This guided walk takes you to many of the special features, and the guide will talk about their fascinating history.

For visitors with prams or wheelchairs, there is also an “accessible” orienteering course in the park. This is again a lovely walk around the park, visiting many of the interesting locations.

As already stated, CITO stands for “Cache In Trash Out”, so a variety of new geocaches will be placed within the park for this event (and these WILL be listed on www.geocaching.com). They should go live after the CITO event, and will complement those already hidden there. Printouts will be provided to those who partake in the CITO.

Birkenhead Park Visitors Centre has a coffee shop selling drinks and snacks for the hungry and thirsty workers. If coming by car, the entrance to the lower park is off Ashville Road (see waypoint) and you can park on the roadside within the park. Please note that the vehicular gates are locked at dusk – but the pedestrian gates are open at all times.

If you would like to take part, then please log a “Will Attend”, indicating how many adults/children are in your group. The rangers will be checking on a regular basis to be aware of the numbers planning to turn up on the day. If you have any questions, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me via my profile.
