A small tribute to the iconic landmark that flourished here for so many years.
Does anybody remember the famous “red barn” that stood here for so long? Predecessor to the big box garden centers that we all now know, this Westchester piece of history has no remains on these grounds. The Finast, the 5 and 10, all the other little shops that have moved on to make room for the bid daddy supermarket that now takes up the whole center left no trace of what once stood as a pillar in our county. Even after the fire Handleman’s still remained strong and was a valuable asset to the community and all the surrounding neighborhoods. If you needed something for your home garden, this is where you went to get it. Period.
