This cache IS at the posted coordinates! The cache is located in Stillwell Woods Preserve on Southwoods Road, Syosset. Cache is about 10 off of a trace sidetrail.
Please read the description below for logging requirements.
The difficulty and terrain ratings are based upon the difficulty in meeting the challenge.
Here is a chance for you to turn back the clock and cache like its 2001. To qualify for logging this cache you need to have Found (or own) a minimum of 12 caches that were hidden in 2001 on Long Island. You will have to send us a list of the caches you are using and the date(s) you found them to demonstrate that you have met the challenge requirement. Right now there are 17 16 15 active Long Island caches to choose from (GC77D Lottery Cash Cache--Archived 4/2/14, GC7D5 No Commercial Vehicles--Archived 7/27/16), so you have some slack and any past finds of these will count. For "old timer" cachers, you may even be able to use some finds on 2001 caches that have been archived. Why only 12 of the 16 caches? Maybe you don't want to do a mystery cache? Or maybe one or two of the oldies get disabled or (We sure hope not) archived and lost for good? You have options to choose from and are not obligated to find ALL 16. But, for those hard core cachers, 14 or higher is preferable! If at any time this number (16) of active older Long Island caches decreases, the required caches to find for this challenge may also be reduced.

Go back to the end of 2001 when the first geocaches were placed and consider what geocaching was like. Was it the good old days? There were no micros or shopping center hides. A small size cache was a 30 cal ammo box instead of the more normal 50 cal ammo box. Caches took you to interesting places with nice hikes in the woods. There were no super difficult puzzle caches to fry your brains, in fact there were no puzzle caches at all. There were no evil hides and if you couldn't find the cache, the hint usually told you enough to find the cache. Some caches took you to very interesting places and didn't even have a log book to find (Virtual caches). No one was concerned about how many caches they had found. Then again, maybe things were not as great as some remember. After your first couple of finds you had to drive pretty far since there were only about 30 caches in all of Long Island. They were all not in great places, in fact one of the earliest was in the middle of a swamp. Older style GPS units had you punch in all the coordinates by hand. No navigating units or PDA's, so you had to print out cache and map pages.
* Please note: since Stillwell Woods is a preserve, dogs are NOT allowed in the park.
