This Sidetracked is my replacement for a previous cache of the same name. The reason for 2 on overall difficulty is due to lots of muggles.
Bournemouth railway station as we know it today opened on 2nd July 1885 having taken just over a year to construct. It was designed to look like a very ornate “winter gardens” inside with impressive brickwork to the exterior. It was originally designed for goods but soon took over passenger duties from Bournemouth East which was situated across the road. As of July 1893 the newer building became Bournemouth Central, a name that stood until 1967. Due to falling into disrepair over the years, it was proposed to demolish this fantastic station in the 1980s but luckily it was saved and after the storms of 1990 caused more damage, more than £6 million was spent on restoring it to its former glory and to what you see today; the work was completed in 2000 - a fitting millennium tribute to Bournemouths’ rail heritage. Today the electrified line carries Desiro Class 444 and 450 trains between Weymouth and London Waterloo in South West Trains livery along with Voyager Class 220 & 221 high speed diesel trains operated by Cross Country that travel between Bournemouth and Manchester Piccadilly. Normally twice a week, a freight train passes through - one hauling sand and the other carrying stone.
