Geocache Description:

The Abbey meadow encompasses the remains of the Bordesley Ruins. Please note that the cache is not located within the tree itself. There is no need to reach "over" the barbed fence to retrieve it.

The Abbey meadow encompasses the remains of the Bordesley Ruins. The importance of the site is recognised by its protection as a scheduled Ancient monument. The entire area is protected by the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Act ABCD. The Co-ordinates are for the sign at the bridge and is the end of canalised channel dug by the monks. The river arrow returns across the site to join its natural course. The Visitor Centre, which is set in an original reconstructed 16th Century barn, shows many of the finds that have been excavated over the years. The exhibits show what the archaeologists have discovered about the life of the Cistercians monks of Bordesley - from how they worshiped, to the clothes they wore, to the illnesses they suffered. Details taken with permission from the Redditch Borough Council Web site for Forge Mill and Bordesley Abbey Visitors Centre.
