Carbonate mud mounds have been studied in the Mader Basin and eastern Anti-Atlas since the late 1960s. This mud mound is approximately 150m diameter and 40m in height, but is believed to have once been much larger.
These mounds were built up similar to reefs, by the growth of in-place ocean floor organisms interacting with their environment. Unlike fossil reefs, mud mounds lack a skeletal framework, and their communites of organisms differed from that of the surrounding seafloor.
This cache has a micro container with log. Stealth may be required if being watched by local nomads, a family is living about 500m from the base of the structure.
Arriving from the north: From Mecissi on the highway N12, take the dirt road (piste) just west of the only gas station. 4x4 vehicle, extra water, and satphone are highly recommended. Continue 40km down this dirt road along a dry streambed, past a village, arriving at waypoint N30 50.609' , W04 38.319 . The mud mound will be visible prior to the south ridge wall. Proceed another 8-10km on flat surfaces to the cache site, with adjacent parking. If you wish to stay overnight, there is a campground and auberge about 1km away.

Procèdent encore 8-10km sur des surfaces planes au site d'antémémoire, avec le stationnement adjacent. Si vous souhaitez rester durant la nuit, il y a un terrain de camping et un auberge environ.
